Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is a American television journalist, commentator and anchor of NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell was recruited as a reporter by KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in 1967. In 1976, she joined the CBS-affiliate WDVM-TV which was based in Washington DC (then WTOP). She joined NBC News Washington two years following that as general reporter. 1981 she started covering at the White House, and in 1988 was named Chief Correspondent to Congress. Mitchell was appointed Chief White House reporter in 1992, and chief Foreign Affairs reporter for NBC News. Mitchell participated on the TV show Meet the Press and also hosted the program. She was part of a panel discussion at the 1988 presidential debates between George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan a former chairman the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has received numerous awards for her journalism achievements, such as the Goldsmith Career Award from John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005. She was also honored by the Leonard Zeidenberg Award from the Radio-Television News Directors Association in 2004. Mitchell was a reporter at in the White House first for NBC News between 1981 and 1988, between the terms of Ronald Reagan's second term as president. Her reporting included a number of crucial stories such as the Iran-Contra controversy, tax reform and the budget and also the issue of arms control. She traveled extensively along with the president Reagan during summits along with Mikhail Gorbachev.
